Kriya Yoga and Himalayan Trip: In Lord Shiva’s Abode

The next stage of our trip was from the Guest house on the Rudraprayag road towards the Okhimath Temple as we were all camping at Gupt Kund.

On the way we stopped at the Rudranath, Lord Shiva’s temple for a darshan as Gurunath had meditated here ages back. It was an awesome sight here, the Mandakini river from Kedarnath flows on the right of the temple and the Alaknanda river which starts from the Badrinath Glacier flows on the left side and there were green mountains on both sides of the temple.

All of us climbed the slippery stairs from the road to the temple and some of us meditated on some rocks, I’m sure at this time there must have been a lot of Energy Healing as our Guru was showering us with his blessings too. I felt a connection with the divine accompanied by the wispy cool mountain breeze and the gushing sound of the rivers, it was like as though the rivers were flowing down my spine, true Kriya yoga flowing without making a conscious effort, could be the Kundalini rising? Who knows!

Universal Love Flowing

As quoted by a wise person — In the Mental and Spiritual place, Shiva is white and proximate to him is Parvati who is dark. I really felt their presence in the temple and gazing at the rivers which were white, blue and black at the same time, great are the ways of the Divine. At that moment we all felt that there was a lot of Chakra Cleansing happening.

The town is a junction of hill districts Chamoli, Tehri and Pauri. The roads here branch off to 2 different routes, one to the Kedarnath temple and the other to the Badrinath temple, we followed the picturesque Kedarnath route.

We were in a great mood of singing and chanting and all of us felt that we were one family and there was Universal love flowing like the rivers we had passed as we drove down. Now and then we were cracking jokes in a joyous mood being transported to a land of fantasy! We were in the rhythm of nature, ‘a nature that was not soulless’ as quoted by Arun Jethwani.

We, especially our co-disciples from abroad were very fascinated by the legend which Gurunath related to lord Shiva’s story which flows like this. After the Mahabharata, when The Pandavas came to ask for forgiveness, Shiva took the form of a bull to elude them and while diving into the ground left his hump on the surface at Kedarnath. Arms at Tungnath, face at Rudranath, navel at Madhyamaheshwar and head at Kalpeshwar, these 5 shrines make the Panch Kedar.

India has Rich Culture

Our land Bharat is so very rich in heritage and history that everywhere we go it is full of cultural and mythological stories and personally I think compiling it would take lifetimes. So as quoted by a fakir and is a popular quote too, “let us celebrate each day as if every day is the last day of ours on earth”!

So, amidst much laughing and singing and Satsang we drank Chai and had parathas and Aloo (potatoes). We reached the Kund and set up camp for another night of adventurous stargazing and spotting constellations like Arundhati and did Satsang.

Being a Kriya Yoga Teacher and Acharya based in South Delhi, I take workshops and teach Kriya Yoga, but I feel so lucky to be in presence of my Guru and travel with him to the Himalaya. Himalaya is the abode of the divine and traveling with my Kriya Yoga Guru adds immensely to the explainable experience that we all pass thru in our enchanted journey to the majestic, divinely abode of the Gods.

Well in my next blog will share about our continued Himalayan trip towards Okhimath.

So, love, laugh and be merry – be happy and spread happiness all over.
